South Minneapolis and Edina lawn care - when is it safe to start spring clean up?

Updated: 21 minutes ago

While it is tempting to get outside and rake up leaves as soon as the snow melts, patience is key to avoid doing more harm than good. You are generally safe to begin spring yard work once the soil dries, the ground firms up, and your grass begins to green.

The purpose of a spring cleanup is to prepare both lawns and gardens for the upcoming growing season. As soon as the snow melts, plants require immediate access to water and nutrients. Removing leaves and debris early ensures they have the resources they need to thrive.

Leaves can be raked, blown, or vacuumed. An often-overlooked practice is mulching leaves into the turf using a lawn mower. While excessive mulching can have a negative effect, incorporating some mulched leaves into the lawn provides a number of benefits.
